Many of us are familiar with the classic series Anne of Green Gables, written by L.M. Montgomery. This is a modern retelling of the classic series. A young girl tells her story through video, showing where she lives and her friends.

Note: Season 2, Episodes 1 ("Summer Nights") and 28 ("Tending to my Fro") are not captioned due to their being silent. There is no talking in these two episodes.

Merry Maidens

The classic story loosely inspired by Robin Hood. In this classic retelling, it's at Nottingham College with several girls, the Merry Maidens, in their dorm room or apartment. One of them is in trouble with the Sheriff who wants to cut down the forest and build a stadium.

The Adventures of Jamie Watson (and Sherlock Holmes)

How many of us are familiar with the world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his assistant, Watson? In this webseries, three girls, including Sherlock Holmes and Jamie Watson, are roommates at a local college. Both Sherlock and Jamie work together on cases on the local college campus. During the series, Jamie is videoing and often referring to her sister Hannah. Interestingly enough, their dorm room is 221B Baker Hall.

Ever hear of Oscar Wilde? He wrote many plays and poems. This web series follows the life of a young Oscar Wilde in the 21st century. The real Oscar Wilde lived from 1854 to 1900. In this series, young Oscar shares his "wisdom."

Northbound Series

Jane Austen's classic book, Northanger Abbey, has an updated and modern feel in this webseries. Catherine goes from home to college in New York City and does a vlog about it, meeting people, making friends, and visiting places along the way. Most of us know that going-to-college feeling.

Middlemarch: The Series

Based on George Eliot's classic novel "Middlemarch," this is a modern vlog-style adaptation. At the time this entry was published, there were 61 episodes. According to the first episode, it is the tale of a group of young college students at Lowick College in the town of Middlemarch, Connecticut.

This webseries is based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden, adapted for modern times. Mary is a young teen who has just moved into a small town after her parents' death to be with her aunt. She has a tutor to help her through her issues with school and spends some time in the woods and with her cat. She tells her story through a series of short videos and images.

The Adventures of Serena Berg

Here's a LGBTQ version of the classic Cyrano de Bergerac.  The story is reinterpreted and told in vlog style by young college students. Since it is a modern interpretation, the dialogue includes modern, casual conversation about things such as sexuality. Serena, the main character, is played by a transgender actress. All episodes captioned, plus the trailer.
